Energy efficiency system on test

The energy efficiency system for cabin ventilation is a result of consistent Halton Marine research and development work. “Several years back, our R&D Manager, Mr. Fabrice Deldrève started to investigate the possibility of saving energy on cabin ventilation systems. Based on calculations and comprehensive tests in the Halton Marine cabin ventilation testing facility in France, where up to 35% potential savings in cabins’ energy consumption were indicated, we started looking for a possible co-operation partner with whom we could proceed with the new technology on board ship. We introduced our results to Mr. Gianpaolo De Pasquale who is working at MSC Cruisetech’s HVAC coordination. The introduction resulted that we were able to convince the ship-owner to have a test zone on board a cruise ship that was already under construction”, says Mr. Timo Kohtaniemi, Technical Manager of Halton Marine. “The results from the zone - that was under a measurement for several months - were compared to a similar kind of area that did not have our energy efficiency system in operation”.
The on-board results convinced the owner of the benefits to install a complete monitoring system to MSC Fantasia, Kohtaniemi believes. “For MSC Fantasia we carried out a Factory Acceptance Test in our facilities where we set up one complete cabin group with computers and monitoring system”, concludes Timo Kohtaniemi.
